GIVE AWAY!!!!
When I first started this blog I thought only my family would read it. You know, family from far that wants to know what we are up to here in Idaho. Well that didnt happen. I have an aunt in Texas (Hi Aunt Robin!) who reads. Both of our daughters read it and our moms too. But that is about it for family as far as I know. My grandparents "dont want to buy anything" and thats OK since I am not selling anything. But a huge surprise to me was that so many other people read this blog. I am thankful for all of you who stop by and for those who leave comments. I have learned so much just by starting this blog/journal. I have met some amazing people and discovered a wealth of fabulous information just by reading other garden blogs and links to great stuff.
So, to celebrate the turning of 10,000 hits (I know I am a little late:-) my daughter and I thought a GiveAway would be fun! So here is the latest and greatest edition of the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving 2009 as well as a seed planter and some great little plant markers! All you have to do is add a comment to this post and tell me what the greatest thing happening in your garden is this week. It can be flowers or veggies, in my book a garden is a garden. You dont have to be a canner to enjoy reading the Blue Book. It will make you want to preserve the harvest, guaranteed. Books like this are how I became hooked! Kitchen Overhaul Part III Still Plugging Away
My kitchen remodel project took on a new life when I installed the butcher block countertops. Love is too weak a word for how I feel about them!
When I left you in Part 2, I had just ripped a hole in the wall to create a passthrough that would allow more daylight into the room from the adjoining laundry. It's been so nice to use the kitchen without turning the lights on all the time. The project got bumped up a month when a friend offered to pick up the butcher block from Ikea for me (a 10 hour round trip). I left the counters in the spare room for a few weeks to acclimate to the house and then got to work cutting them down to size for the new layout. In the meantime, I continued to work on removing the old countertops. Max decided to get into the act by chewing through the exposed dishwasher hoses. GAAHHH! Bloody cat!

I have mentioned in earlier posts that I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring. Most generally I enjoy the heck out of winter but two long cold winters, back to back, are starting to wear me down. I have been blog-surfing a lot (which may be the understatement of the year), and looking at everyones green makes me feel like spring will eventually get to Idaho too. Its coming, jut not fast enough. If its going to be this cold it may as well snow, then water would be a bonus this summer. These are two angle of the same raised bed garden, in two very different seasons. You cant even tell what is under all that snow. I cant wait to add more to my flower beds this coming year.
See how my scattered mind is working these days? I was talking about raised beds but my mind jumps to the flower bed in the picture. I am all over the place with my garden thoughts. Planning has always been half the fun for me, so I am still working on the garden room plan and will post progress on my draft later. Thank you to all of the folks who have sent their thoughts on the idea. I will definately be adding a curved stone path, a garden bench on a matching stone area nestled in the corner. I am getting excited.
