Bus Company Reserves Every Front Seat To Honour Late Civil Rights Icon

Bus Company Reserves Every Front Seat To Honour Late Civil Rights Icon

Yesterday a bus company in Virginia took the opportunity to mark what would have been Rosa Parks’ 103rd birthday by reserving the front seat on all of its buses in her name. Electronic messages on the buses also displayed special messages to recall her actions.

Ms Parks is best known for her act of defiance on a Montgomery, bus on December 1 1955 that changed the course of history. On that date, Ms. Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger.

Decking them halls a little bit late

Decking them halls a little bit late

In case you havent heard, the Fighting Irish of the University of Notre Dame are the #1 football team in the country and undefeated at 12-0.  VERY exciting - like pinch me I am dreaming Santa doesnt need to bring me any other present EVER exciting.  (Except a National Championship win on January 7th in Miami!)  However,  I must admit, all the excitement and ballyhoo has completely thrown a wrench into my Autumn festivities, holiday decorating and every day life.   I traveled for a week to Boston to see them play and spent many extra days above and beyond the normal time spent on football weekends in South Bend.   So I decided to post pictures of my best friends "football house" which has become a second home to me.  At this point, it is the only place which is sporting any type of holiday splendour in my life at this point!

His house is a completely charming tudor built in 1920 with gorgeous molded plaster ceilings and wooden doors with crystal doorknobs.  It is across the street from campus and it is the most wonderfully inviting little house.  This year, we decided to decorate with simple greens and white lights - classically simple and elegant.  Plus with South Bend lake effect snowstorms, it is a lot less frustrating to fix repeatedly.  It is no fun to find your snowman three blocks away rolling around in the street.  :-(

I went into the alley and found overgrown evergreen trees hanging over the fence and "borrowed" a few sprigs.  The trees definitely needed a trim so it was a "win win" situation.  :-)

Isnt it funny how you forget about some of your Christmas decorations or they magically appear in the boxes and you dont even remember ever buying them?  Happens to me all the time.  I found a box of these three pathway mini-trees and decided to stick em into the window box.  Understated yet very quaint.  The little trees are SO adorable!

These cute little wreaths... WALMART!  Only $10 bucks!  Can you belive it?  They are so well made and add the perfect touch to the top of the house.  I also bought the red velvet ribbon there - a huge bolt for like $3 dollars.  Who says decorating has to break the bank?  So this is the first post since November 13th - Im quite ashamed of myself.  And my first Christmas post!  Seriously?  But hopefully I am going to get some major decorating done in the next few days because it is better late then never when it comes to Christmas.  And how would Santa Claus ever find my house without my Griswold type lights?  :-)  Ok my friends, thanks for stopping by - I am off to decorate...

You gotta try these chips! LATE JULY my new favorite thing!

You gotta try these chips! LATE JULY my new favorite thing!

***Disclaimer:   I never heard of these until earlier today when I bought my own bag.  I dont have ANY sponsors for anything.  LOL   :-)

CHIPS!  Oh how we love them!   Potato chips, Doritos, Fritos, Tostitos, and the list goes on and on.  We  love the crunch and all the goodness that follows, right?  BUT WE HATE THE CALORIES AND FAT!
So I was in TJ Maxx in South Bend, Indiana, and I LOVE the food sections at TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods!  They always have such unusual delicacies on the shelf from all over the world.  There I saw these interesting chips sitting in a bag.  LATE JULY Mild Green Mojo Multigrain Snack Chips.  "Hmmm.  These look intresting", I thought as I read the bag.  Here is what I learned from just reading the bag:

1.  ORGANIC - like REAL organic - certified and everything - not just something written on the bag.
2.  GLUTEN-FREE:  Not an issue for me so much but I know it is for A LOT of people out there.
3.  16 WHOLE GRAINS per serving.
4.  100% WHOLE GRAIN
5.  OMEGA 3s
6.  NO Synthetic Pesticides or Chemical Fertilizers (My oncologists will be SO thrilled).
7.  NO Trans Fats or High Fructose Corn Syrup
8.  NO Artificial flavors, colors or Preservatives
9.  Peanut Free - If you are allergic, no worries here.

I decided to check the sugar level because as we all know if the flavor away in one area, they usually jack the sugar for taste.  NOPE!  Sugars is 1g!  ONE gram of sugar?

So I decided the only way these would fail would be taste.  They couldnt be THIS healthy and still taste awesome.  WRONG!  OMG - they are so good!  Like a a beautiful sunny day Good!  THAT good!
I bought two bags, one of Mild Green Mojo and Sea Salt Seashore.  I like a little kick to my chips so I LOVED LOVED LOVED the Mild Green Mojos.  Made with green chiles, cheese and a hint of lime.  No dip needed although could only imagine these coupled with guacamole.  YUM!

They also had Summertime Blues but I didnt grab those.  I am definitely going back to grab those tomorrow with any remaining bags of their chips.  At $1.99 a bag, it is a super price for all the wonderful goodness contained inside!

So then I Googled them because I always have to know as much about something as I can and it is a WHOLE WORLD of goodness!  They have COOKIES and other snacks!  Can we hear the angels sing?  All I did was stop in to find some gourmet maple syrup and a small bag of chips changed my life.  No more guilt - no more icky healthy chips - I seem to have found the answer to my prayers.

The Wonderful World of Late July Organic Snacks! :-)

Perusing their website, I found that they are available at local food stores including Whole Foods.  I am going to slowly try all of their products and make notes of my favorites.  Mild Green Mojo may be my new addiction.  But it is a good thing.  I mean, how many addictive substances have a full days serving of Omega 3s?  OH and did I mention that 10% of all proceeds send kids to summer camp?  I mean seriously - I get the best chips ever AND help to expose todays youth to campfire songs and smores.  I love America!
