Whats Inspiring Me This Week

I spent all day Saturday tearing down my beautiful 100 year old tongue & groove fir ceiling in the front entry. Why? Because it was leaking all winter and there was no other way to access the attic of my tiny front entry.

I'm sorry to see that pretty ceiling go, but it was all moldy on the attic side of the wood so good thing it's gone... Since I won't have the finished entry to show you for a while, here are things that have been inspiring me this week!

ADORE this space, isn't it stunning??? sigh... want this in my bedroom!!

Whats Inspiring Me This Week

Decorating Procrastinating LOVE this term!

As you know, I have joined the 30 Day Room Makeover Challenge to try and combat the dreaded DECORATING PROCRASTINATING. You know what this is - you have a project you need to do but you just dont want to even think about let alone DO it.

The above photo is the vent and lighting over the stove and I added corners, bead board and decorative molding to fancy it up a bit. I had to repaint the old black and white harlequin blue grey and white to match the new color scheme. As you can see, all I have to do is add the corner molding around the bottom, paint it, and paint the recessed lighting ring. If I put my mind to it, it would take the the better part of about 2 hours. Alas, here it sits. Unfinished and mocking me every time I walk into the kitchen.

Instead, I have been doing fun stuff. Summer stuff. Here I am with Mary Poppins carpet bag from the film. WAIT, what??? Yep - I was tickled to death to see this in person being the Disneyphile that I am. It was one of the exhibits in the Museum of Science and Industrys exhibit, Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives. It was a spectacular day! Much more fun than emptying a mammoth amount of Christmas decorations, WDW souvenirs and Halloween stuff out of the guest bedroom. Clutter galore.

I first saw the term in late July on Serenas blog Thrift Diving. She is the blogger hosting the 30 day challenge in which you have to finish one space by August 31! I chose the dreaded guest bedroom and I am so excited to finish it - I just dont want to do the work. LOL

That is all I have done and it is AUGUST 10TH!!!!!!! Like we are in double digits. And, yet, this morning I went to mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. One of my most favorite places in the world.

Maybe I will have to stop at the Grotto one more time and pray for motivation. Enjoy your Sunday!

HomeGoods clearance finds became This!

I am addicted to HomeGoods! I always have been. I have even resorted to giving it up for Lent, along with TJ Maxx and Marshalls... The real holy trinity! Lol.

I recently found this in the clearance section for $10! Granted it was really beat up and missing a pocket, but I could totally see the potential that it had. Plus, it was only $10!! So, I bought it and it was sitting in my garage and I showed it to my sister. So she moved the pocket and painted it. It looked awesome except for the big blank spot at the top.

Then I remembered two plaques I bought a while ago because I loved them! They went into my "I dont know what Im going to do with this but I dont want someone else to get it and I know Ill use it someday" bin! Do you do this too?

So I glued the adorable Seaside crab plaque to the top and I couldnt love it more! All for $24! A sweet summer HomeGoods find!

First Poultry Loss This Morning

We had our first poultry loss this morning. My husband noticed that one of our hens was craning her neck and gasping for breath last night. We raced into the house and started trying to figure out what it could be. She still wanted to roost with the others, moved around like normal but kept opening her mouth wide and arcing her neck.

I raced in the house and spent the rest of the night trying to figure out how to help her. It hasnt been too cold the last week so we left her in the coop where she was certain to have less stress. We got up at 5:00 this morning to check our forum board questions for answers to no avail. Doyle also headed to the chicken house and she was dead on the floor. I think he is going to try a necropsy on her to see if anything obvious was the culprit. We were pretty discouraged. We knew things could go wrong but we had a false sense of security because we have had such good luck with all the chickens we raised this year. I am sad but I also know that on the farm anything can go wrong.

All of the other girls look good this morning. Begging for treats is the norm for them. Doyles warm oatmeal during the bitter cold snap must have singed a nice memory in their minds as they mob you when you walk in the door. We will keep a very close eye on them to make sure nothing seems to be amis with anyone else.

New Broken China Jewelry In My Etsy Shop This Week

This is Why We Garden

Meet Baylee..... our 19 month old granddaughter. She really loves the goats and eating tomatoes fresh out of the garden. Not a big fan of the chickens.

This summers garden season has nearly killed us. We built a huge new garden and quite possibly took on a little more than we bargained for. Dont tell my husband I just admitted that a little. He would smirk. But towards the end, when all I do is can and water and can and mow, I often ask myself why exactly we do what we do. Well, here is the epitome of why. You have to love being able to hand a child a fresh tomato, rub the dirt off and tell them to have at it. And they do, because it tastes good. And its sun warmed and yummy. And shhhhhh...... its good for them too. Cant say that one too loudly.

Doyle grew what he hoped would be giant pumpkins. They turned out pretty well, not quite as giant as he would have liked but they are still huge to little people. There are three on the vine and they are about to go to their homes on a porch to be carved for that spooky holiday coming up. Baylee has hers all picked out.
