Quick Fixes for Sticky Doors Wobbly Chairs and Doors that Wont Stay Open

Sticky wood doors and drawers, doors that won't stay all the way open, chairs that wobble - so annoying! And not so difficult to fix either. Here's how you do it.

1. WOBBLY CHAIRS

I bought a beautiful Italian made ladder-back chair for a song because one leg was a tiny bit shorter than the rest. I used a glue gun and put a bead across the base of the shorter leg. Hot glue begins to set up almost immediately and can be chipped back off if necessary, so it's an easy fix. Just level the glue off with your finger (when it cools a bit!) and flip the chair. Check if it is still wobbly and push lightly down on the seat closest to the offending leg to finish the job. The glue will be malleable but not sticky. When the glue hardens, the chair wobble is fixed!

Simcoe Watershed Art Project/Artists Afloat invites you to participate in a juried exhibition at the Orillia Museum of Art and History, May 14 to June 30. 2012.
Please submit up to two works in any medium that reference the historic, social, geographic, and/or economic development of Lakes Simcoe and Couchiching watersheds, marking significant place and time within an environmental context.

Deadline for Entries is April 5, 2012

Open Shelving LOVE! Project complete!

I just wanted to share my completed open shelving project! A few weeks ago, my large cabinet started to pull away from the wall. So I removed the cabinet to repair it. But once the cabinet was down, I really liked the way the counter space opened up. So I began to research the idea of open shelving. I must say, I absolutely love it! It adds a bit of pop to the kitchen and pop is always a good thing. ;-)

As a true Disney fan at heart, I like to add smatterings of Mickey Mouse or Disney magic in my projects. Nothing major, just subtle nuances usually known only to me. This time, I chose to cover the dividers in the glass jar cubby cabinets in vintage Mickey Mouse cartoon scrapbook paper. You cant see it from looking head on to the cabinet but I like that it is somewhat hidden.

Here are my shelves decorated for Valentines Day. That chocolate cake is from Hobby Lobby. It is spectacular and looks SO real. It was $30 but came down to $18 with the coupon. LOVE!

The cubby cabinet has worked out wonderfully. I found these chalkboard tags at JoAnn fabrics! I also found a thin tip chalk pen that works like a marker but can be erased at any time. Its very cool.

I like the way it opened up this space in the kitchen and gave me more counter space for tasks.

This space has gone through quite a few evolutions to get to where it is now...

When I first started to redo my kitchen, I was dealing with brass knobs, hunter green formica and honey pine trim!

I painted the cabinet trim white, changed out the hardware and painted the counters to look like granite. For details on that process, please click here.

Next, I painted the kitchen grey blue and added a ledger stone backsplash.

And here is the current and final result. I really love the way this looks in my kitchen.

Village Shoppes Christmas Open House GORGEOUS!

I received a post card in the mail the other day and I am sure you could hear me squeal with delight if you were listening very intently. In the Midwest part of the country, our Autumnal season is all about apples, leaves, Harvest Festivals, the arrival of chilly temperatures and The Village Shoppes!

The Village Shoppes is a most magical place full of everything from gorgeous and oh so comfy sofas and chairs, unique home furnishings and their incomparable collections of holiday decor. I mean we arent just talking Christmas and Halloween, we are talking about Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Easter, 4th of July, etc. It is the most amazing place for everything for the perfectly appointed home!

It is located in the very small yet very quaint city of New Carlisle, Indiana. The two stores are actually located directly across the street from one another! My system is that I go in the smaller store first, peruse very carefully and make mental notes of possibilities. Then I go across to the larger store which winds through rooms of holiday splendour with color palates to match every decor imaginable.

Since we were already in town for the Notre Dame football game and the Chicago Bears had a BYE week, Sunday was the perfect blustery day to attend. Please come along with me and bask in the gorgeousness of The Village Shoppes...

This space was SO cozy and inviting. The sofa is Paula Deen and is a textured tan material and the accent pillow are done in a spa blue and tan colors. Just lovely. Love the owl prints too!

This boho chest was adorable!

Their garlands, sprays and ribbons are the best I have ever seen throughout the years!

This clock reminded me of Its A Wonderful Life because it has 67 Bailey Street on the face! :-)

I have been debating whether to paint my entry table black and this vignette sealed it!

This was one of my favorite spaces - the wooden accent piece behind the couch is always done SO well from year to year. This brown sectional is awesome and the woodland winter touches add so much cozy to the space! Just lovely.

Winters Splendour - hmmm this sounds familiar! (wink wink)

Isnt this stunning? This is simply silk striped fabric tied to frame out a mirror as a backdrop for a display of warm colors which could easily transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas!

Material attached to a curved rod adds holiday drama to a plain mirror. And then they added a picture light over the mirror. Genius! Gorgeous!

I am in love with these bird prints - there are four companion pictures!

I wonder if they would let me have Thanksgiving in their store. Can you imagine having a night time holiday soiree here? With all the twinkle lights and candles? It would be AMAZING!

My favorite room - the laurel garland hanging from the ceiling medallion is always my favorite thing in the whole store! It has been there for years done in every season from tartan to pastel. Love it!

I can hear Sam the snowman singing "Silver and Gold" as I walk through this room! I so want this sleigh ride picture - they sold out last year.

Traditional red and green - you can never go wrong!

The kitchen and dining room section. If you cannot find a set of placemats for your table HERE then I am thinking you will never be able to find them. So many choices I can never decide!

One of the outside windows - how adorable is this?

This is Bill - the incredibly gifted owner always primping and rearranging his store so it is the best version of itself. I can only imagine what his house is like! :-)

Topiairies galore in this green, black and red traditional scene. L*O*V*E!
